Oak and brass, gone
A builder-grade hall bath from the tail end of the eighties: oak double vanity, a Hollywood light bar, gold shower frame, grey tile. Same walls, same footprint — forty years newer.
What changed
Nothing here was broken, which is the honest starting point for a lot of this work. The tub held water, the vanity held towels, and the room still looked like the year it was built. This is the cheapest kind of bathroom job to do well: the plumbing does not move, so the money goes into what you actually see and touch.
The oak double vanity came out for a single white shaker unit with a round mirror and a pair of sconces where the light bar had been. Subway tile replaced the surround on the tub, the shower picked up the same tile and a clear glass panel, and a patterned cement-look floor runs through the room and the water closet to tie the two halves together.
